SUSTAINABILITY & ETHICS

While no brand can be 100% sustainable, we have a commitment to being as environmentally and ethically conscious as possible as well as doing what we can to help conserve our oceans!

As a fashion label, we understand we are part of the problem, which is why we have
made considerate choices about our production process and the materials we use in order to make a change for the future and the well-being of the planet in order to provide a solution. We have also found ways to give back to the ocean we love by using a portion of the profits to help endangered marine life.

Our mission is to create beautiful, long-lasting swimwear, while doing something to help our oceans and promote a new, collective, forward way of thinking. We are on a mission to ensure that choosing sustainable options are more widely accessible too. While we understand that it is not possible for everyone to be able to buy sustainably, those who are able to must help to promote a mindset shift away from fast fashion and the sheer over-consumerism in our society, particularly that of plastic and single-use items. Plastic pollution in the oceans is a severe problem and is causing serious adverse effects to us and marine life.

PLASTIC OCEAN EMILY MAY

OUR FABRICS & COMPONENTS

Our beautiful stretch fabric is made from a regenerated nylon called ECONYL®. Sourced from Italy, it is a high-end recycled material that is incredibly soft and breathable while also highly durable. The fibres in our fabric are made from plastic waste collected from the oceans and beaches such as single-use plastic bottles and fishing nets that have been discarded at sea. Plastic waste like this is turned into regenerated nylons to create our material and help clear up the oceans!

In addition to this, our luxury fabric is produced in a sustainable processing plant which only uses renewable energy; thus reducing the gas, electricity and water consumption used to manufacture it! The plant also
uses cutting edge technology to monitor and reduce toxic residuals. All of our beautiful rose gold and gun metal silver components (clasps, hoops, hooks and slides) are made from luxury plated metal, not plastic.

MANUFACTURING & PRODUCTION

All of our pieces are made to order in the UK - we don't outsource production which significantly lowers our shipping and greatly reduces our carbon footprint. We only produce garments that have been ordered by the customer and don't hold any bulk stock - this means that there are no wasted items sat in storage. Each of our pieces are incredibly intricate and are made up of multiple panels which are cut up and put together to create the best fit. This drastically minimises our fabric waste as the offcuts from the larger panels can be used again for the smaller panels. All of our pieces are made to the highest quality by exceptional technicians with immaculate working conditions.

PACKAGING

We have gone to great lengths to ensure our packaging is as eco-friendly as possible! Our beautiful mailing boxes are fully recyclable and made from a minimum of 90% recycled material using paper pulp that’s sourced from responsibly managed forests and mills. They are compostable and biodegradable so when exposed to light, air, moisture and microbes, they break down to natural elements found in nature, leaving no toxicity in the soil. Our manufacturer uses water-based inks with no chemical additives used during the printing and drying process so they are safe to both workers and the surrounding atmosphere. They also have a clean air policy, ensuring they remove toxins and pollutants from the air used during the entire manufacturing process. Our mailing bags are made from natural materials and are fully biodegradable. All of our packaging is produced locally meaning freight emissions and transit costs are cut.

By using our boxes, you helped plant a tree, meaning that more trees were planted than used to produce it. Thanks to this badge, you know you’re supporting brands with an eco-friendly mission!

HELPING TO PROTECT WHALES & DOLPHINS

We donate 5% of every order to WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation to help protect our fragile and vulnerable marine life. Based in the UK, WDC works across the globe, with the help of their amazing volunteers and supporters, to end the many threats to whales and dolphins, and we want to further support them and their achievements.

WDC is the leading global charity dedicated to the protection of these amazing creatures.. With a vision of a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free, WDC fights for their survival by working to end captivity, stop whaling, prevent deaths in nets and create healthy seas. Whales also play a vital role in the health of the ocean on which every living creature on Earth depends upon. By donating to this incredible cause, we hope to do our bit to help protect the planet.

WDC have so far prevented animal deaths in fishing gear by banning nets in certain ares of the world and created some of the worlds largest marine protected areas as well as created strategies to reduce bycatch and found methods to alert marine animals of nets in harbours. They have worked with local campaigners to ban captivity for whale and dolphin shows in various countries and persuaded companies to stop selling tickets. They have reached out to government officials and enforced laws to stop supporting old traditions such as whaling and trading whale and dolphin meat.

The donations go towards supporting all of their work and help their team to achieve their goals of further protecting whales and dolphins and the ocean they call home.
